Measurement: Proving Customer Training Impact

The most common customer training measurement mistake is stopping at completion rates.

Completion is useful, but it does not prove business impact. A customer may complete onboarding and still fail to adopt the product. Another customer may skip a course but use a playbook successfully. HR and L&D teams need a measurement model that connects learning activity to customer outcomes.

The Customer Training Measurement Ladder

LevelWhat You MeasureExample Metrics
ParticipationAre customers using training?Registrations, course starts, event attendance
CompletionAre customers finishing assigned learning?Completion rate, certification rate
ConfidenceDo customers feel more capable?Feedback, self-assessment, satisfaction
CapabilityCan customers perform key tasks?Quiz scores, task completion, practical assessments
BehaviorAre customers using the product better?Feature adoption, login frequency, workflow completion
Business ImpactIs training improving customer outcomes?Retention, support ticket reduction, expansion, customer health
